Powerful Explosions and Plumes of Smoke Witnessed in the Heart of Tehran
As per on-the-ground reports, two powerful explosions were heard in the city on Saturday. Simultaneously, two plumes of dense smoke were seen rising over the centre and east of the Iranian capital.
“The type of these blasts indicates that this is a strike involving missiles,” a media outlet stated, though it did not immediately offer additional information.
Context: Rising Strains and Prior Events
This event occurs against a background of sharply increased tensions in the region. Major developments preceding this strike involve:
- US Military Buildup: A significant build-up of American warships in the Middle East, including the repositioning of aircraft carriers.
- Diplomatic Negotiations: Latest discussions between the US and Iran on Tehran's nuclear programme ended inconclusively, with suggestions of further talks scheduled.
- Public Statements: Before the strike, a prominent American figure had labeled Iran as “the world’s number one sponsor of terror” and delivered warnings regarding its missile program.
- Diplomatic Deadline: Allegedly, a time limit of 10 to 15 days had been presented to Iran to settle the nuclear dispute or face serious repercussions.
Reaction from Tehran
Reacting to prior accusations, Iranian officials had charged the United States of spreading “falsehoods” about its defensive capabilities. They rejected claims about weapons development and casualty figures as unfounded.
These developments remains fluid, with further updates anticipated as events unfold.
