The artist has handed over the entirety of his twenty-five thousand pound honor prize money to the Music Venues Trust, which functions to protect the UK's small music venues.

Fender was presented with the prize on mid-October as his new release People Watching was named the outstanding release of the previous year.

He has opted to give the cash to the Music Venues Trust, in acknowledgment of the essential function grassroots venues played in his beginning days.

"I wouldn't be doing what I am doing today if it hadn't been for all the gigs I did around the North East, and beyond, when I was beginning," remarked Sam Fender. "These venues are legendary, but they are struggling."

From early 2023 onward, more than 150 of these locations have ceased operations – approximately 16% of the whole industry in the UK.

In the last year, major artists such as Pulp, the group Coldplay, Katy Perry and Sheeran have all supported the Music Venues Trust in its efforts to support the industry, by including a minor surcharge to their ticket costs, which goes to help independent venues.

Sam Fender also took part, generating in excess of £100,000 on his live tour to support numerous small stages across the UK.

The donation helped venues that were confronting possible closure due to difficulties stemming from floods, fire incidents and family tragedies, as well as licensing issues, court cases and sound issues.

Additional spaces were granted monetary aid in modernizing amenities and gear that helped artists and audiences.

"The notion that money from concerts in big venues backs the local stages, where it kicks off for performers like me, is just logical," Sam Fender has stated.

He is far from the only musician to donate his award funds to charitable organizations.

Back when they received the trophy in the mid-90s for their record Different Class, lead singer the singer announced that the band would contribute their prize money to the charity the charity.

That year, musician Ms Dynamite split her bounty among multiple good causes, including the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell charity.

"And I contributed a thousand pounds to my local community centre, to their gymnastics class, because I practiced gymnastics when I was a child and they needed new equipment," she told a publication.

In recent years, they donated their funds to the local youth club that nurtured their act, alongside other grassroots music organisations.

And the 1994 recipients M People gave their award to a charity for MS after a acquaintance was identified with the disease.

"The victory was ample," said artist the singer. "The cash was the extra but we didn't require the cherry, because we had the main prize. So our victory impacted somebody else's life."

In the past week, the MVT announced it had saved several local spots in south-east England, by bringing them into community ownership.

The first in that area and the other in the city were purchased under the Own Our Venues initiative, which is backed by the arts council and supporters who buy "ownership units" in the buildings.
